Introduction

Welcome to my website. My name is André Groot, and at the end of 2019, I became captivated by the wonderful hobby of photography. This passion stems from my lifelong love for nature.

I started by taking simple snapshots of everything that crossed my lens, and gradually, I specialized more and more in all aspects of the hobby, with a particular focus on birds, animals, and fungi. Recently, I’ve also added macro photography to my repertoire. Through extensive reading, countless hours of Googling, and taking some basic courses, I expanded my knowledge, but above all, I practiced—a lot—in the field.

As mentioned, I began with basic snapshots using a borrowed camera (the Canon 1200D). I enjoyed it so much that, after a few months, I decided to get serious with a Canon 90D DSLR and a standard lens. Soon after, I invested in a telephoto zoom lens (because, after all, you want to capture that bird as close as possible) and a macro lens (in the fall of 2020, I discovered the enchanting beauty of fungi).

As with many hobbies, I quickly expanded my collection of lenses, leading to my latest acquisition: the Canon R7 mirrorless camera.

On this site, you can not only view my photos, but I’ll also share information about birds, fungi, and all the other wonders of nature whenever possible. I’ll include my camera settings as much as I can in hopes that fellow photographers might find them helpful.
